February 23, 2012
When sixteen year old Arella Cline's summer vacation begins with the tragic death of her parents, she is sent to live with her aunt to begin a new life on a remote island off the western coast of Ireland. But there are strange things happening on Tory Island— shadow figures, mysterious auras, and the haunting sound of her deceased parents’ voices. The only thing Arella finds appealing about Tory is the handsome, dark-haired Declan McQuillan. But Cannon Fidelous, a mysterious outcast, warns her that the island and its inhabitants are hiding a dark secret. And when Arella finds an ancient book of prophecies, she discovers the island's curse—a curse that only she can undo.

Review of Poison Tree by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

The rich stew of the author's creations—SingleEarth, vampires, shapeshifters, Tristes, the Bruja Guilds—are at full boil here in the story of two 20-ish young women trying to out run their very different pasts, and figure out where they fit in and who they might become. Each has landed in a more "normal" place, and each wonders if, like a tattoo that can't be covered up, they can ever really fit into "normal.    Rating 4-stars I enjoyed this book a whole lot- can't say it is an all time favorite- but worth the read... I was a little confused with the characters and the plot.  I'm not sure if it was simply because I read most of this book while at work so there were interruptions- or that it was a little confusing. The ending was great and the cover is beautiful- I will pick up more from this author in the future- I loved her writing style! This was a quick read and a well rounded book- just the right amount of action, romance. and mystery.  If your looking for a quick paranormal read this one makes a nice addition to your collection. Review of Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, the ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future. WOW- is all I can say*** I have been after this book for so long, and once I was able to finally purchase it on Amazon- something came up and I had to cancel my order.... I was so sad- Then one day my best friend had a package sent to me and I opened it only to find a hardcover copy of Cinder by Marissa Meyer sitting in my hands. (of course I did a dance) It took me three days to read this book and Cinder lived up to the standards created in my mind- I loved it. I will Pre-Order the second in the series without hesitation. I can't wait~ This is a fantastic start to a great series- the characters well developed a great plot unfolding (although it was predictable) it still makes for a fantastic retelling of Cinderella* (I mean how much cooler can you get other than a cyborg Cinderella) I recommend this story to everyone- no doubt you will love it. 5 Stars- Favorite of 2012- Thank You~ Sunni for this AWESOME gift :) Reesa***

Review of Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols

A sexy and poignant romantic tale of a young daredevil pilot caught between two brothers.

When I was fourteen, I made a decision. If I was doomed to live in a trailer park next to an airport, I could complain about the smell of the jet fuel like my mom, I could drink myself to death over the noise like everybody else, or I could learn to fly.

Heaven Beach, South Carolina, is anything but, if you live at the low-rent end of town. All her life, Leah Jones has been the grown-up in her family, while her mother moves from boyfriend to boyfriend, letting any available money slip out of her hands. At school, they may diss Leah as trash, but she’s the one who negotiates with the landlord when the rent’s not paid. At fourteen, she’s the one who gets a job at the nearby airstrip.

But there’s one way Leah can escape reality. Saving every penny she can, she begs quiet Mr. Hall, who runs an aerial banner-advertising business at the airstrip and also offers flight lessons, to take her up just once. Leaving the trailer park far beneath her and swooping out over the sea is a rush greater than anything she’s ever experienced, and when Mr. Hall offers to give her cut-rate flight lessons, she feels ready to touch the sky.

By the time she’s a high school senior, Leah has become a good enough pilot that Mr. Hall offers her a job flying a banner plane. It seems like a dream come true . . . but turns out to be just as fleeting as any dream. Mr. Hall dies suddenly, leaving everything he owned in the hands of his teenage sons: golden boy Alec and adrenaline junkie Grayson. And they’re determined to keep the banner planes flying.

Though Leah has crushed on Grayson for years, she’s leery of getting involved in what now seems like a doomed business—until Grayson betrays her by digging up her most damning secret. Holding it over her head, he forces her to fly for secret reasons of his own, reasons involving Alec. Now Leah finds herself drawn into a battle between brothers—and the consequences could be deadly. I won Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols in a giveaway for free on Goodreads First/Reads. ~After takeoff this one is sure to land your heart~ You will not regret diving into this read-  Amazing Cover with a heart-warming unique story.. I Loved this one.. Reesa***

Oddily by Linda Pohring*** Book for Review- Contest Winner- Review Posted

I enjoyed this story- however their were a couple small things that bugged me, but not enough to discourage my 5-star rating*** The writing was simple at times~ and about 3/4 way through~ I almost began to get annoyed with the main character- Oddily - but in the end Oddily got it together. (I was beginning to think she was always going to feel sorry for herself) Overall this was a great story and I would recommend as a great read and also a quick/fun summer read. I was hooked in the story from the first page wondering what was going to happen to Oddily and where this story was leading. I'm so happy to have been a part of reading Oddily by Linda Pohring. (I will be ordering the second in the series Maxim) I plan on continuing on with this series until it's finished. It seems the second book is where all the excitement will happen* and this series will take off. Thank You for the opportunity to review this book- I've added to my favorite list and it will be a 2012 favorite. Reesa***

Review of Replication: The Jason Experiment by Jill Williamson

Replication: The Jason Experiment

by When Your Life Is Not Your Own

Martyr---otherwise known as Jason 3:3---is one of hundreds of clones kept in a remote facility called Jason Farms. Told that he has been created to save humanity, Martyr has just one wish before he is scheduled to 'expire' in less than a month. To see the sky. Abby Goyer may have just moved to Alaska, but she has a feeling something strange is going on at the farm where her father works. But even this smart, confident girl could never have imagined what lies beneath a simple barn. Or what would happen when a mysterious boy shows up at her door, asking about the stars. As the reality of the Jason Experiment comes to light, Martyr is caught between two futures---the one for which he was produced and the one Abby believes God created him to have. Time is running out, and Martyr must decide if a life with Abby is worth leaving everything he's ever known.
I loved this book~ Would like to see this one made into a movie for the big-screen. I had a hard time putting this one down and finished this book in two days or so- I've added this one to my favorites shelf on goodreads. Great writing from Jill Williamson. A likable main character~ and an awesome evil character. This will be a favorite of 2012 for me. Thank You!!! Reesa***

Review of Green Light Delivery by Anne E. Johnson

Webrid is a carter, like his mother and grandfather before him. It’s not glamorous work, but it mostly pays the bills, and it gives him time to ogle the sexy women on the streets of Bexilla’s capital. Mostly, he buys and sells small goods and does the occasional transport run for a client.

Then he gets mugged by a robot.

Now, with a strange green laser implanted in his skull and a small fortune deposited in his bank account, Webrid has to make the most difficult delivery of his life. He doesn’t know who his client is, or what he’s carrying, but he knows that a whole lot of very dangerous people are extremely interested in what’s in his head. Literally. And they’ll do whatever it takes to get it.

With the help of some truly alien friends, a simple carter will journey across worlds to deliver his cargo. And hopefully keep his head in the process.

I was not too sure I would like this book, but I found myself captured right away with these creatures descriptions from the very beginning. I rated the book five stars~ I found myself wanting to know more and more about Webrid's journey. In the end- I was happy with the book the ending was a bit different than I was expecting. It was light hearted~ I would recommend this book to everyone looking for a fun~ light~ summer read! Anne E. Johnson did a great job with the character descriptions painting a awesome visual for readers. I did have a hard time putting this book down*** The main character is very likable and this is one of my favorites for 2012. Thanks~
Green Light Delivery is a fascinating, fresh take on sci-fi that pairs the nonstop action and intrigue of Raymond Chandler’s noir novels with a completely alien setting, spanning worlds and introducing us to creatures with a hundred ears, poisonous bones, or radial symmetry instead of bilateral. It’s full of adventure and humour, and will satisfy anyone looking for a space opera that’s a little out there
